Job Description

The Canvass / Field Director in Training role at Grassroots Team seeks individuals with prior experience in canvassing and leadership. We are looking for dedicated candidates who will undergo comprehensive training in the Grassroots Team standard training program and policies, starting from the ground up. As a Director in Training, you will become an essential part of our team at our nearest office, embarking on an intensive and accelerated training journey within the Grassroots Team training program. Throughout this program, you will acquire essential canvassing and training skills while working on our highest-priority campaigns, both established and new. Your primary goal will be to consistently surpass fundraising expectations.

Your training period will span from 6 to 10 weeks, and your placement into a Field or Canvass Director role will depend on your performance.

Responsibilities

Make a Difference on Issues:

  • Lead on the front lines of some of the most critical social change movements in the country fighting for human rights and social justice.
  • Contribute new ideas, test new methods of fundraising and mobilization, and help manage and develop staff

You’ll be learning to:

  • Train staff through Grassroots Team’s training program, lead in the office and in the field by example and develop the next generation of leaders to help support and grow their team.
  • Train, develop, coach, and manage the team of high performance, high integrity canvassers including new hires, experienced canvassers, Trainers, and Field Managers.
  • Build a team of fundraising canvassers based on organizational budget goals and expectations.
  • Cultivate a welcoming, inclusive, and campaign focused atmosphere.
  • Work with the team in individual and group settings, with a particular eye towards developing leaders and recommend promotions to the Canvass and Regional Director.
  • Consistently communicate and maintain performance and integrity standards
  • Meet and exceed and team and office budgeted fundraising goals and expectations
  • Field Directors are second in command to Canvass Directors in the office and organizational structure.
  • Canvass Directors report directly to the Regional Director and/or Program Director


Qualifications

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Preferably 1-3 years of fundraising experience
  • 1-3 years of team leadership or management experience required
  • Geographic flexibility is a must
  • Willing and able to commit to a 6-10 week training period, with compensation provided at an hourly rate along with bonuses
  • Dedication to meeting and exceeding fundraising objectives during the training period
  • The duration of the training period and placement as Field Manager, Field Director, or Canvass Director is contingent upon performance, conduct, and adherence to high standards of integrity throughout training
  • Excellent use of verbal communication skills and body language when communicating face to face
  • A strong work ethic and passion for progressive causes
  • Is a self-starter, has a positive mindset and motivates teams and office with ease.
  • Goal oriented, determined to succeed, and willing to do what it takes to build their office and the greater movement
  • Experience leading diverse and inclusive teams of staff or volunteers


Pay and Benefits

On our progressive and expedited leadership track you will have the opportunity to progress through a competitive compensation structure that reflects your dedication and performance:

  • Canvasser Pay: You will skip training pay and move directly to Canvasser pay $21.00
  • Competitive and leading compensation for Field Directors and Canvass Directors: $55,000 - $75,000 annually depending on experience and location.
  • Performance-Based Bonuses: We believe in recognizing and rewarding exceptional performance. You will have the opportunity to earn performance-based bonuses, further enhancing your total compensation.
